Vision

As we continued to expand in recent years, our operations were aggressively outgrowing our 1,700 square foot shop and office. Tucker Homes was in need of a new shop that had work areas for different forms of carpentry, including material and tool storage. And we were in need of a new office that offered a combination of privacy and collaboration, while allowing us to display our level of craftsmanship to our clientele.

Design

We wanted buildings that were functional, low-maintenance and constructed with materials providing superior structural and insulation integrity. We designed our shop as a 4,000 square foot building constructed with Nudura Insulated Concrete Forms, complete with hydronic in-floor heat and 3 bay areas for loading. We decided to make our office a 900 square foot addition to our existing shop. This office is a slab on grade with hydronic in-floor heat, HRV, Andersen windows, and wrapped in 2" of EPS foam for superior insulation against our harsh winters.

Key Challenges

Making major changes to a piece of property with multiple building classifications (Industrial, Commercial, Residential) required site plan amendment and environmental studies prior to construction. We wanted to get our heating methods away from the propane that we were using prior to construction and found a solution in a wood boiler built to heat all 8,500 square feet of space on the property. This exterior wood boiler heats water for the 6,400 sq. ft. of in-floor heating and provides supplementary heat to the existing furnace and domestic hot water systems.
